RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Image
Respiration :                 Respiration is a process of uptake of oxygen and removal of carbon dioxide from tissues of the body.          The cells in the body derive energy mainly by utilizing oxygen.carbon dioxide (CO2) is produced as a by-product.Carbon dioxide has to be eliminated from the cell.          Unicellular Organisms exchange oxygen and CO2 directly with the external environment.Multicellular organisms require a specialized system to exchange O2 and CO2 with the external environment. This complex function is performed by the respiratory system. External respiration :Exhange of gases between the atmosphere and the lungs. Internal respiration ; Exchange of gases between blood and tissues. Respiration Involves two processes :             1.Inspiration:During this phase air is taken into the lungs from the atmosphere      2. Expiration:Dur...

HEART

Image
Introduction : Heart is actually two separate pumps:           *right heart that pumps blood through the lungs.          *left heart that pumps blood through the systemic circulation that provides blood flow to the other organs and tissues of the body. In turn, each of these hearts is a pulsatile two-chamber pump composed of an atrium and a ventricle. Each atrium is a weak primer pump for the ventricle, helping to move blood into the ventricle. The ventricles then supply the main pumping force that propels the blood either.    * through the pul-monary circulation by the right ventricle.             Or    * through  Systemic circulation by the left ventricle. Rythemic beat : Special mechanisms in the heart cause a continuing succession of heart contractions called cardiac rhythmicity, transmitting action potentials throughout the cardiac muscle to cause the heart’s rh...
